About Shane Marsh

Shane is an Advanced Clinical Resource Therapist and registered Resource Therapy Trainer. In addition, Shane is also a Clinical Hypnotherapist, having trained at the Academy of Hypnotic Science and being awarded a government-accredited Diploma in Hypnotherapy. Shane has worked in the workers’ compensation industry for over 30 years and has seen first-hand the extensive impact of mental health and chronic pain on people’s lives, as well as the importance of having an awareness of the general mind-body connection.

“I’ve been interested in how the mind works since my early teens and many things that were considered “out there” back then are just mainstream now. There is so much research now to support the mind-body connection that it’s beyond doubt and well-accepted by academia and the health professions. The word “therapy” sometimes puts people off as they think people have to have a diagnosable mental illness to benefit from “therapy”. Instead of the word “therapy”, think of help, assistance, coaching or guidance. There are an enormous number of people out there who could be described as mentally well but are continually worried and stressed about various things (the “worried-well”). They’re often unaware that things could be different by just changing a few little things in terms of how they think and act. Little niggles, nuisances and how they manage the stresses of their daily lives could be turned around instead of being put up with.”

It’s at the Academy of Hypnotic Science that Shane first met Dr. Gordon Emmerson.

“When I did the Foundation training in Resource Therapy at the Academy, I immediately realised that Resource Therapy incorporated all of the best aspects of what I had studied up to that point (and since then), added additional elements that filled in the gaps and structured the whole thing in a way that just makes sense. Rather than taking a theory and trying to make everyone fit into that theory, Resource Therapy fits around how people actually work as unique individuals. Whilst it incorporates a very powerful and wide-ranging set of tools to help people make the changes they’re ready to make, it’s also very flexible in how a session can be completely customised “on the fly” to the needs of each individual. It also integrates well with other techniques and modalities so that more can be achieved with those other techniques and modalities than would have been possible without Resource Therapy.”
